The Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory Police Headquarters has rescued two female victims, Mart Ojadi, 15, and Evelyn Chinaza, 12, who were abducted by gunmen on June 30, 2024, at Guto village in Bwari.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday.
Ade disclosed that the police in collaboration with officials of the Ministry of National Security tracked the kidnappers to Golaka Forest in Niger State and engaged in a fierce gun battle with them, forcing the kidnappers to flee with injuries.
The victim was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with his family.
The statement read: “At about 1:30 pm today (June 30, 2024), a sudden attack occurred in Guto village, Bwari Municipality by unidentified gunmen, where two female victims, Mart Ojadi, 15, and Evelyn Chinaza, 12, were abducted and forcibly taken to an unknown location. Personnel of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Federal Capital Territory Police Force rushed to the scene.
“The police showed extraordinary courage in coordination with officers of the Ministry of National Security to track and close in on the attackers and conduct a tactical ambush on them in Golaka forest, which borders the Federal Capital Territory in Niger State.
“This resulted in a fierce gunfight where the kidnappers were overpowered by the operatives, forcing them to flee into the nearby bushes where both kidnapped victims were rescued unharmed although with varying degrees of gunshot wounds.
“While the victims have been reunited with their families, the Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory Police, Bennys Igwe, reiterated that the police force remains steadfast in its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the capital.”
Igwe also urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police emergency hotline.
