The match was thrilling for the many fans at Kigali Bailey Stadium from start to finish. In the 11th minute, Police Football Club showed great performance when Richard Kilongozi met Pavel Nzila in the air and passed the ball to him, who immediately headed the ball towards the goal but when they tried to shoot it back, it hit the post.
In the first 15 minutes, Police Football Club took the lead, and in the 14th minute, they saw the outstanding striker Ani Ilia was fouled, the ball was thrown out by Hakizmana Muhajili, but goalkeeper Pavel Nzila touched the ball and it flew out to the corner.

It was not until the 30th minute that APR FC began to attack Police FC’s defense and shot several times, but to no avail. In the first 15 minutes of the second half, both teams played a bit sluggishly, with APR FC seeming to have the upper hand over Police FC. In the 67th minute, APR FC replaced Victor Mbaoma with Mamadou Sy and Richmond Lamptey with Mugisha Gilbert, a change that was appreciated by APR FC fans, while Police FC replaced Akuki Djibrine with Simeon Iradukunda in the 70th minute.
Both teams continued to entertain the crowd with players like Hakizima Muhadjili, Ani Elijah, Abedi Bigirimana giving their all for Police FC but APR FC’s Niyomugabo Claude continued to perform well along with teammates including Niyigena Clement and the likes of Mamadou Sy, Richmond Lamptey, Luboneka Jean Bosco also looking for goals.
In the 88th minute, both teams made substitutions, with Police FC replacing Richard Kilongozi with Mugisha Didier and APR FC replacing Niyibizi Ramadan with Tuisenge Arsene, while Dushimimana Olivier was replaced by Alioume Souan, but this could not change the 0-0 draw at the end of quadruple extra time in the 90th minute, without the need for penalties.
For APR FC, penalties from Niyigena Clement, Mamadou Sy, Alioum Souane, Pavelh Ndzila and Byiringiro Gilbert converted goals while Dauda Yussif and Richmond Lamptey saved the patience of goalkeeper Niyongira. Police FC’s penalties were scored by Hakizimana Muhadjili, Ani Elijah, Eric Nsabimana, Simeon Iradukunda, Mugisha Didier, Issa Yakubu and Abedi Bigirimana, who won the final penalty as the match ended in a 6-5 shootout victory.
Police FC won the trophy for the first time and received a prize of 10 million Rwandan francs, while APR FC paid 5 million Rwandan francs.
