Police have launched an investigation into a fight between players and spectators at an under-13 rugby league game in Sydney’s southwest on Saturday, in which a man was knocked to the ground and his head stamped on.
Police learned that two men from different teams were involved in the fight, aged 39 and 36. The 36-year-old was reportedly knocked to the ground and his head was stomped on.
At about midday, Bankstown police were called to Roose Park on Stacey Street in Bankstown following reports of a fight at a junior rugby league game. Police received reports that no one was seriously injured and when police arrived the fight had stopped and most of the crowd had left.
The Division One semi-final was between the Bankstown Bulls and Cabramatta, with the Bulls winning 28-10.
Police have launched an investigation and are urging anyone with video of the fight to contact Bankstown Police Station or CrimeLine on 1800 333 000.
A teenage boy has been charged over an attack on an opposing player during a youth football match last weekend, an ugly incident which saw the victim taken to hospital and he banned from the club.
NSW Police have charged a 17-year-old Blue Mountains Football Club player with assault occasioning bodily harm after he punched a 16-year-old Emu Plains Football Club player during an under-17 football match in Glenbrook on Sunday morning.
In an unrelated incident last weekend, two football clubs in Sydney’s west are under investigation after video emerged showing players punching, kicking and shoving each other in a violent brawl.
