Police in the central region of Tigray announced that Adaj Mahlet Tehele, who was taken hostage three months ago, was killed in the city of Adwa in Tigray.
Commander Tsegai Asfeha, the region’s police crime investigation chief, told VOA that the kidnappers killed and buried 16-year-old Mahlet Teklai the same day they abducted her.
Her funeral took place this afternoon, the commander added.
We consulted the civil society coordinator of the “Yikhono” Women’s Rights Defenders on this issue and he asked the government to work with the society to solve the security issues in the area, especially for women, which is a security threat.
