With Wittner responsible for repairing hot water pipes that cover half the capital region’s population, master plumbers have a lot on their plate. The president of the Master Plumbers Association said he hopes the big projects will raise awareness.

Half the population of the capital region is without hot water as a result of the maintenance of the transmission lines in Ventura. Böðvar Ingi Guðbjartsson, president of the Master Plumbers Association, said members have noticed customers and acquaintances calling them for help or offering to help in person.

Bodvar said Icelanders generally know little or nothing about the country’s system.

“I just think we need to take advantage of this now, there needs to be a general awareness of these heating systems. People should know what kind of system they have, and then these instrument frames should be labeled, they should be well accessible, and people should know where to shut off the intake valve, especially if something happens,” Böðvar said.

According to Veit, repairs are proceeding as planned. The system should be fully stressed by noon tomorrow.
