Plenkovic answers whether he will replace Butkovic: “Remember Damir Kristicevic”

The union claims that over the years they have pointed out the problems and answered Minister Butkovic’s questions. They also sent a letter from 2022, but despite listing the problems that led to the tragedy, they have not received any response or heard anything.

“We don’t know what the internal problems were that led to the tragedy, we will check. It is an unrepresentative union that appears in the media and helps those who want to put pressure on the government and Jadrolinija management. Investments in Jadrolini amount to 120 million euros. New ships are being purchased… Jadrolinija means life to everyone on the island, I am from the island and I know this,” Plenković explained.

“As a government, we are doing our best. We have also brokered a collective agreement that has not been signed since 1998. The unions point out that they have been pointing out problems for years but the Prime Minister has not taken them seriously. In addition, the Supervisory Board has issued similar warnings to Minister Butkovic. Therefore, all relevant information has been provided.

“The connection between these problems and the accident is doubtful, because ships are not built for short-term use, but for long-term use, which means regular maintenance and safety inspections, as is the case with a conscientious company like Jadrolinija. All ships undergo regular technical inspections, as no company would risk the safety of its passengers and crew,” Plenkovic said.

What about Butkovic?

“As for the crew’s responsibility, two parallel investigations are currently underway – one led by the police and the other by the state prosecutor’s office. Until we get an official and confirmed position from the competent authorities, all claims are just speculation. If the chairman of the Supervisory Board has objections, the government will consider them with the relevant departments and appoint a new NO chairman if necessary,” he added.

He then refuted rumors that he was seeking the resignation of the chairman of the Jadrolinija Management Board: “Forget it, I know something has to be written, but there is no use in doing so. It is a wrong direction”.

When asked about Oleg Butkovich’s political responsibility and possible resignation, he said briefly:
