Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated Xbox games is the reboot of Fable, developed by Playground Games and released in 2020. Perfect Dark, State of Decay 3 Last year, it released the first cinematic trailer, and now, at the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, we have a new trailer and a more specific launch window of 2025.
In case you’ve been living under a rock, Fable is an RPG video game saga set in a fantasy world that first came to Xbox 360 and PC in 2004, thanks to Lionhead Studios, led by the infamous Peter Molyneux.
Now another trailer has been released, showing off a mix of cinematics and gameplay. It also revealed that the game will be coming to Xbox Series X/S and PC in 2025 (with Game Pass available from day one).
“What does it mean to be a hero?” it reads in the game’s description. Last year’s trailer answered that question with Dave, a disgruntled gardener who turns giant. This year we see a much darker take on Humphrey, played by British comedian Matt King.”
“Humphrey was once Albion’s greatest hero, but those glory days are long gone. In Fable, Humphrey will be forced out of retirement when a mysterious figure from his past threatens Albion’s existence.
Playground Games also confirmed a partnership with Eidos Montreal, which will support the continued development of Fable.
Microsoft gaming CEO confident in quality of new Fable
In 2021, Xbox boss Phil Spencer said players should be confident in the quality of the game given Playground’s pedigree.
“The only thing I can say about Fable is look at the pedigree of the team and Playground and the standard that they’ve set for themselves when it comes to making games. And I think they showed that in the preview for Forza Horizon 5,” Spencer said.
“I think people should trust that (studio head) Gavin (Raeburn) and the team there are just as focused on making something amazing with an IP that we know is so important to a lot of Xbox fans, so ‘I can’t wait to show more, but the team is just amazing.”
