Australia has eight active NBA players, including Jack McVay, who joined the Houston Rockets this season. Greece has Giannis. Spain is number 2 China is the number one country in the FIBA world rankings and has a group of players with extensive experience in major international competitions.
It wouldn’t be surprising for any of these three countries to emerge from this group as the top pick, but we’re going with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Team Canada.
SGA finished second in 2023-24 MVP voting, and his offense flows just as smoothly in international competition as it does in the NBA. He leads a team of 10 current NBA players, including Jamal Murray.
With two players in Andrew Nembhard and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Canada might have the second-best defense group in the tournament.
The advantage ultimately goes to SGA, though. Despite the good performance of Group A, there isn’t a single guard outside of Team Canada who can really trouble Gilgeous-Alexander, who will likely average around 20 points thanks to his third-level scoring and free throw shooting.
