Cherif Yunus and Ahmed Tijan won bronze medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.
Qatari beach volleyball team Cherif Yunus and Ahmed Tijan advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Paris Olympics with a 2-0 win over Chile on Monday.
The superstar duo defeated the Chilean duo of Marco Grimalte and Esteban Grimalte 21-14, 21-13.
Qatar Olympic Committee President Sheikh Joan bin Hamad Al Thani attended the tournament and publicly congratulated the Stars team after their impressive qualification.
“Congratulations to the beach volleyball team! Beat Chile 2-0 and advance to the quarterfinals.” wrote.
Yunus and Tijan continued their undefeated run, defeating Australia, Sweden and Italy on their way to an Olympic medal.
Qatar will next face Myles Pathan and Andrew Benesh of the United States.
The United States kept its hopes of advancing alive with a 2-0 win over Italy’s Samuele Cottafava and Paolo Nicolai in the round of 16 on Monday in Paris.
