Papua New Guinea’s hopes of securing a place in Australia’s National Rugby League (NRL) are expected to be confirmed within months, the chairman of the NRL bid has revealed.

“We have set the date for the tournament to be 2028 and we hope to announce the teams by the end of this year,” Sonker said.
