This afternoon, the resurgent Tupapa Leopards will take on the rising Titikaweka Bulldogs in week five of the Cook Islands Rugby Union Rarotonga Club 15s Tournament at Victoria Park.

The last time these two teams met, the Panthers won 32-0.

CIRU’s Ben Koteka said it was a satisfying end result but stopped short of praising the Bulldogs for their valiant effort.

“The main difference between the two teams was the Panthers’ ability to execute and convert those chances into points. The majority of the Panthers’ points came on ‘turnover balls’ – the team’s cohesion and connection was the main difference.”

However, with the Bulldogs looking more physical and confidence high following last week’s 21-19 win over the Arorangi Bears, the Panthers’ performance this week will be closely watched.

Players to watch for the Bulldogs are energetic guard William Rani, busy forward Petero Lagilagi and versatile defenders – brothers Tanguy and Brian Akava.

For the Panthers, an underrated forward duo led by Davey Mato and Kana Nga and a speedy backline consisting of Tua Ravula and now Peniasi ‘Flash’ Dakuwaqa will be key.

The match will start at 4pm. Tomorrow, Avatiu Nikao Eels will face Bears.
