On 23 July, Israeli forces besieged a house in Tulkarm and used a Palestinian youth as a human shield, who died from his injuries.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) and the Committee for Detainee and Former Detainee Affairs said in a joint statement that Zaher Tahsin Raddad, 19, from the town of Saida, north of Tulkarem, died on Sunday morning.
Raddad was seriously injured when Israeli forces laid siege to a house in the Azbat al-Jarad community east of Tulkarem on 23 July.
An Israeli drone struck the house and Raddad was arrested along with three other young men, one of whom suffered moderate injuries, the official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported.
The prisoners’ organization confirmed that Raddad died at Israel’s Meir Hospital.
The group said video footage from the Tulkarm operation showed Raddad being placed in the front of an Israeli military vehicle, shot and used as a human shield by Israeli forces.
Multiple surgeries
The statement also said that Raddad’s health condition was critical and unstable after undergoing several operations in the hospital and could only rely on artificial respiration.
Despite his serious condition, Israeli authorities continued to detain him until his death.
“This crime is unprecedented in the history of the occupation forces since they launched a genocidal war against the people of Gaza, while Gaza prisoners have also been subjected to another form of genocide, including torture, humiliation, starvation and mass isolation,” the group said.
They stressed that the Israeli authorities were still holding several wounded detainees in hospital, who were detained after being injured during their arrest.
Raddad’s death brings the number of detainees killed since October 7 to 23. The groups said dozens of Gaza detainees also died in Israeli detention during the same period.

Earlier, Israeli troops kidnapped and assaulted an elderly Palestinian man during a raid on the town of Madama south of Nablus.
Palestinian sources said Haji Abu Nizar was found severely beaten and unconscious.
