A Pakistani court on Saturday acquitted former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife of charges of illegal marriage, a day after his party won more seats in parliament, increasing pressure on the country’s fragile government.
PTI says Pakistan Khan said there were no pending cases to keep him in jail after a court in the capital Islamabad acquitted Khan (71).

The Islamabad District Court said in its ruling that after being acquitted of the illegal marriage charge, it was necessary to release the couple if there were no other judicial proceedings against them.

It is noteworthy that the judiciary stayed the conviction of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra on April 1 after sentencing them to seven years in prison for illegal marriage in early February last year.

The judicial ruling came after Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were accused of not abiding by Islamic law in their marriage and during the waiting period after Bibi divorced her ex-husband.
