LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Dr. Jarbas Barbosa da Silva Jr., Director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), recently sent a letter to the President of the United States AIDS Healthcare Foundation Michael Weinstein of the Pan American Health Organization (AHF) praised the foundation for reaching the milestone of 2 million people served and highlighted its extensive work in humanitarian care and public health in Latin America and the Caribbean.

“This achievement (serving 2 million people) reflects the broad reach and impact of its services, which provide treatment and support to people affected by HIV/AIDS and sexually transmitted infections,” the United Nations’ health agency for the Americas, the Pan American Health Organization, said in a congratulatory message. The organization also recognized AHF’s support for Venezuelan migrants and pledged $10 million to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.

“We would like to thank Dr. Barbosa and PAHO for their recognition and support in recent years. The region’s promising results would not have been possible without our partnership with PAHO, which is why our Memorandum of Understanding with them is central to our work in Latin America and the Caribbean,” Weinstein said, adding, “We look forward to working closely with PAHO in the future as the region faces numerous public health challenges in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

In addition to PAHO, AHF was delighted to receive congratulatory messages from more than 100 key partners, including the Government of Brazil, the Government of Mexico City, partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ghana, Kenya and Montenegro, the University of Miami and the Network’s Alliance of Parliamentarians for Global Health – United.
