The first pass results for secondary education and VWO and HAVO entrance exams were unsatisfactory. Only 49% of Mulo students passed the final exams immediately. The previous year it was 58%. For VWO admission, about 21.5% of more than 11,500 students passed the exams. This concerns the entrance exams for students in Murlo III and IV. Only 10.2% for HAVO. The minister who asked Starnieuws for clarification said that this percentage is a bit surprising. There are usually more HAVO graduates than VWO graduates. 27.3% passed for admission to Natin. About 60% passed all three types of schools.
40% of students will not progress to VWO, HAVO or Natin. Those who pass VWO can also take HAVO. But only 10.2% pass HAVO alone. Ori said normally the percentage would be higher. These figures need to be studied. The results of the school study will also be reviewed. The ministry must evaluate the results and determine where the problem lies.
Secondary schools are being phased out. After the next school year, there will no longer be a fourth year. Students can continue with secondary education or opt for vocational training. As far as HAVO is concerned, the minister noted that the flow has been high in recent years. Now it will stabilize, as only 10% have passed. There are 2-year and 3-year HAVO options available.
