President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday revealed that the insecurity facing the country is being driven by “well-organised” non-state actors.
The President said joint efforts by law enforcement agencies and stopping inter-agency rivalry are crucial to addressing the problem.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Nigeria Police Force’s National Cyber Crime Centre in Abuja, Tinubu, who was represented by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bossong Tijani, stressed the complexity of the security challenges facing the country.
He said: “The security situation in the country is one of complex threats posed by well-organised non-state actors.

“Addressing this issue requires a consistent approach from all stakeholders within the security architecture. I therefore call for an end to inter-agency competition and urge law enforcement agencies to adopt a coordinated, collaborative approach.”
Tinubu reiterated his government’s commitment to reforming the Nigeria Police Force, pledging to invest in weapons, equipment, recruitment and training of police personnel to improve the numbers, quality and readiness of the force.
Tinubu acknowledged government’s resolve to combat insecurity, noting that the threat of cybercrime has increased significantly.
“Our government is resolute in combating all forms of criminal activity. Cybercrime is an emerging and evolving threat. We have witnessed an increase in cyber criminals, cyber fraudsters and cyber terrorists using the internet to carry out destabilizing activities,” he said.
