After Lapa, Météo-France has just extended its orange “wave inundation” alert to the western and southern Tuamotu Archipelago and the Gambier region.
A strong south-westerly swell affected the Tuamotu Islands, rising from 3m to 3m 50 on Thursday morning before peaking at 4m in the afternoon. It stabilized at around 4m in the evening.
The waves receded to 3.50m on Friday afternoon and then to 3m in the evening.
In Tahiti and Moorea, waves will remain around 3 metres to the south-southwest on Friday.
Lapa remains under an orange alert for “wave inundation”, with peaks expected to reach around 5m on Wednesday night. Swells are expected to remain at 4m/4m50 until Thursday afternoon, before starting to recede at 3m50 on Thursday night. On Friday, they will drop to 3m.
The High Commission called for vigilance and compliance with security instructions, including in areas covered by yellow alert.
