Prime Minister and Bastef Party Chairman Ousmane Sonko spoke on Tuesday during a meeting with artists who contributed to Basilu Diomaye Faye’s victory. He strongly criticized what he called the “sissy” opposition, who would rather stay behind the scenes than come to power, while financing insulters.
Ousmane Sonko rejects the idea of a “state of grace”, which he sees as a weakness, and is highly critical of the opposition, accusing them of fomenting discord and funding insulters rather than expressing their views publicly.
“I hear some people talking about a state of grace. A state of grace is for the weak, we don’t need it, especially from an opposition that spends its time hoping to create a split between Diomaye and me. No opposition leader dares to stand up and express his opinion, but they fund insulters. As I have already said in the Grand Theatre, these practices will stop. Some people have been arrested and have not even found a lawyer.
He confirmed that these practices would cease and reiterated his commitment to the debate of ideas while ending personal attacks.
“We are in a country of laws and everyone has the right to express their opinions, but the insults and personal attacks have ended. I am ready to debate with everyone, but certain practices will no longer be tolerated.”
