Becoming a college professor has been one of the most rewarding professional experiences of my life. I come to this noble activity at my age, and I approach it with humility. I approach it not as a job, but as a responsibility. As an opportunity for commitment and service.
I don’t teach. I want students to discover the power and usefulness of communication in corporate life. I share many years of experience working on communication strategy and crisis management for public and private projects.
I believe in the power of case studies. I always try to listen to my students. I value your reactions and opinions. I really enjoy group work. Let students discuss, reflect and ask themselves what courses of action they could have in a particular situation. They figure it out themselves.
I have learned a lot as a teacher. By studying the subject of each course, I realized how much the world of communications has changed in recent years. Not just because of social networks, which in themselves represent a huge shift compared to two or three decades ago. But because of the impact that communication has on a company’s reputation and value. Corporate social responsibility and sustainability issues are becoming more important every day.
As a teacher, we need to learn and value the power of change. Otherwise, we will not be relevant to our students. The way things were done in the past is not good or bad, it is just different.
Being a teacher in the age of artificial intelligence is a challenge. All knowledge is available at a “click” from the phone or computer in all students’ backpacks. The challenge is not in disseminating knowledge but in reflecting on it. Finding reasonable and sensible paths of action.
Being a teacher is a daily challenge. It is not always easy to connect with students. Confidence can be gained by bringing topics into everyday affairs. One of the great challenges facing companies today in terms of communication is to go beyond technology. Use all the technological tools at hand and create content from them. Investigate, reflect, understand the impact of one decision or another. Create opportunities from communication.
Being a teacher means being fully present in every class. Creating scenarios that allow for healthy discussion and understanding of complex moments happening in the world, in the lives of nations and companies. Being a teacher is about transmitting energy. If I feel that I have succeeded in inspiring in my classes, I will leave the day satisfied. Inspire a spirit of adventure, to see things in a new way. Inspire one or several people to start a dream.
