The number was waved around like a trophy by the organizing committee: more than 2 million tickets had been sold as of Wednesday morning (more than 30,000, to be exact), including 1 million since the Games opened on July 26.
Two other symbolic points are worth highlighting. More tickets have been sold for the Paralympic swimming events than for the Olympics, 251,000 compared to 224,000! There were 13 sports with an attendance rate of over 90%, and around 20 in total, reaching 75%. Athletics, wheelchair basketball, swimming, wheelchair tennis and blind football dominated in terms of numbers due to venue capacity restrictions. Unfortunately, with the end of the holidays and the requirement to return to school, the public was less diverse than during the Olympic Games, with 92% of buyers living in France and 73% in the Ile-de-France region.
There are about 500,000 tickets left to sell, with a particular focus on the “After Hours” formula, all these competitions you can go to with your family after get off work or school, and the Closing Ceremony, not just of the Paralympics, but of Paris 2024, with tickets starting at 44 euros, announcing the participation of 24 artists from the French electronic scene.
