The accounts of Egyptian football stars turned into online mourning booths for Modern Future and Egypt national team player Ahmed Refat, who died of cardiac arrest in the early hours of Saturday, and his funeral was attended by thousands of people from his birthplace, Kafr El Sheikh governorate.
Egypt national team star and Liverpool England player Mohamed Salah posted a photo of Ahmed Refat on his Facebook account and commented: “Survival belongs to God, may God give patience to his family and all his loved ones.”
Meanwhile, Al Ahly player Mahmoud Kahraba wrote on his Instagram account: “There is no power or strength except God… How heartbreaking this is… May God have mercy on you, oh Rifaat, oh Lord, place your illness in the balance of your good deeds and intercessors, and give patience to your family, and to all of us, for the separation… This is such a huge shock that no one can understand… It’s as if you took part in this meeting to say goodbye to us, Ahmed… May God give you strength when asked, forgive you, and let you live in his spacious gardens.”
Zamalek club captain Mahmoud Abdel Razek Shkabala mourned him on his Facebook account, writing: “With great sadness and grief, and with a heart that trusts in God’s will and destiny, we mourn the death of our brother and friend Ahmed Refat. Goodbye, Refat, you were one of the most sincere and pure people.”
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mustafa Schubert bid farewell to player Ahmed Refat with touching words on the “X” platform, writing: “There is no God except God… People do not believe in this, may God have mercy. My dear, let your resting place be a paradise… Let your illness be your intercessor on the Day of Resurrection.”
Al-Ahly and Egypt national team player Omar Kamal Abdel Wahed posted a photo of Ahmed Refaat on their account on the Facebook platform with the comment: “Oh, my heart aches for you, my brother, my friend and my friend. Ten years old, I don’t believe it, I don’t understand, but I won’t say anything, just don’t blame the one who created you, who is kinder to you than anything. Go see her. “
Ahmed Refaat suffered a cardiac arrest during the team’s match against Al-Ittihad in Alexandria on March 11 and was subsequently rushed to hospital where he remained in a coma for nine days until he regained full consciousness.
The player left the hospital, resumed his normal life and made a full recovery, but today at dawn he fell ill again and was again transferred to the hospital, where he breathed his last.
It is worth noting that Refat was one of the stars of the Egyptian youth team that won the 2013 African Cup of Nations in Algeria, and he subsequently played for Empi, Zamalek, Alexandria Ittihad and Algeria Club. Masri, who is from Port Said, had professional experience with Al Wahda in the United Arab Emirates and played five international matches with the Pharaohs first team.
