In Paris, a car drove into the terrace of a bar. One person died and six people were seriously injured, three of whom were in critical condition. A total of 23 people were in shock and received medical treatment.

AFP reported that police have arrived at the scene. According to the police, this may be a traffic accident and the driver did not intentionally hit anyone.

Around 7:30 p.m., two people in a car drove onto a bar terrace on Père Lachaise Street in the 20th arrondissement of Paris. Police sources told Le Parisien that they were apparently drinking and under the influence of addictive substances. The driver fled and the passenger was arrested by police, the newspaper added. Le Figaro wrote that the driver was drunk when the accident occurred.

A waiter at a store about 200 meters from the accident site told AFP that the car was coming at high speed in the opposite direction, and then he heard a loud bang. According to him, people fled in all directions, two women helped the injured, and the police arrived soon. “They were co-workers, neighbors, people I knew. It was a quiet street, nothing ever happened here.” The waiter said.

Four fire engines and several soldiers from the Sentinel program, which patrols French streets as part of a campaign to prevent terrorist acts, arrived at the scene. With the Summer Olympics opening in Paris on July 26, there is a growing security concern across the country. During the Games, 35,000 police officers and gendarmes will be on the streets.
