Olympics Live: Sydney McLaughlin-Leveron breaks women’s 400m hurdles world record, Noah Lyles wins 200m bronze

Femke Bol looked very disappointed with her performance – she really lost herself in the last 150m and was pacing around shaking her head.

McLaughlin-Levrone performed with such confidence and a strong desire to chase the world record he set.

Both of them started well, with Boll leading on the back straight.

However, they didn’t stay on the same level for long as McLaughlin-Leveron picked up the pace around the bend and by the time everyone came out of the bend, McLaughlin-Leveron was so far ahead it looked like she might have won!

She continued to lead and had to fight for a new world record with herself in the last 50 meters. She crossed the finish line with a long distance to go… She broke the new world record with a time of 50.37 seconds!

In the end, Boll took third place and Anna Cockrell of the United States won the silver medal.

A heavyweight clash is set to take place in the women’s 400m hurdles final, with world record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levron taking on Femke Boer of the Netherlands.

Boll performed well in the mixed 4x400m relay, winning gold for the Netherlands, while McLaughlin-Levrone set a new world record in June.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson spoke to the BBC after finishing the 200m and said she had “no complaints about the day’s race”.

“Hurdles has always been a taboo event for me, but I have been practicing hard for it,” she added.

Regarding the high jump, she said “she had wanted to return to the 90s for a long time, so I am very happy that I was able to achieve this goal today.

Regarding the 200m, she said it was “really frustrating” because she “wanted to get as close to 23 seconds as possible, but you know what, I’ll take it”.

Finally, she added that she would go back to “recuperate, eat, sleep, and come back tomorrow.”

KJT got off to a good start, jockeying for the lead as the runners came around the bend.

She navigated the curve and took the lead, ultimately winning the race in 23.44 seconds.

She scored 1,035 points for a total of 4,055 points – she led the day by 48 points!
