An old Chinook transport helicopter (D-663) is now stored in the National Military Museum in Soest. The equipment has been in use since the 1990s. The Ministry of Defense donated it because the entire Chinook fleet has been replaced and modernized. The American manufacturer Boeing delivered the last of a total of 20 new aircraft in November 2022.

The Chinook is a workhorse. Movement of soldiers and equipment, transport of large and heavy objects, medical evacuations, and fighting wildfires. The new transport helicopters have taken over all the missions that the old ones did. They do wear out from the frequent use.
These new transport helicopters are designated CH-47F MYII CAAS and are based at the Defence Helicopter Command at Gilze-Rijen Air Base.
Chinook helicopters are known for their twin rotor blades.
