The Organization of Islamic Cooperation expressed its strong condemnation of the Israeli Knesset’s approval of a draft law rejecting the establishment of a Palestinian State, which is generally intended to pursue the policy of colonial occupation and its continued violation of the rights of the Palestinian people, in blatant disregard for the principles of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.
In a statement today, the organization reiterated in this regard its strong support for the two-State solution and called on the international community to shoulder its responsibilities to end the Israeli occupation and achieve a just, lasting and comprehensive peace in the Middle East that would enable the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate national rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign State on the 4 June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
The organization also condemned the storming of the courtyard of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by the extremist Minister of the Israeli occupation government, Itamar Ben Gvir, today under the protection of the Israeli occupation forces, and reiterated its condemnation of all actions aimed at changing the Israeli occupation policy of the geographical and demographic realities of the occupied city of Jerusalem and attempting to undermine the existing historical and legal status of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, stressing the shared responsibility to defend the Al-Aqsa Mosque and work to restore Palestinian sovereignty, as it is an integral part of the Palestinian territory occupied in 1967 AD and the capital of the State of Palestine.
The organization affirmed its support for all efforts by the State of Palestine to fulfil the responsibilities of the international community, including the activation of international judicial mechanisms to hold Israel, the occupying Power, accountable for the war crimes and genocide it has committed and to redress the historical injustices that continue to be perpetrated against the Palestinian people.
On the other hand, the organization strongly condemned the actions of the Israeli occupation authorities aimed at undermining the status and role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), intensifying direct attacks on its facilities, targeting its employees and hindering its activities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, considering it a serious violation of the Charter of the United Nations and its Convention on Privileges and Immunities.
Affirming the decisions taken at its successive summits and ministerial councils, the organization called for continued cooperation with international actors to put an end to the ongoing Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people throughout the Palestinian land, and called on all States that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to do so and support its right to become a full Member of the United Nations.
