The 2022 “Fó Fila Fali” Population Census, conducted by the National Institute of Statistics and the General Statistics Office with technical and financial support from UNFPA, UNICEF, UNDP, UN Women and the Population Statistics Office, is a very important initiative to share the 2022 Population Census results with community leaders and local people in all villages and cities across the country. The project provides a clear and detailed view of the socio-economic situation of the communities, allowing local leaders to actively contribute to the development of their areas.

Each city’s report includes detailed statistics on various socioeconomic indicators, such as population, education, health, labour market, agriculture, access to water and sanitation, electricity, mortality and poverty levels. They also discuss progress related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enabling an accurate assessment of local needs and progress. 3e4a6e17-9a7e-4222-8d16-4f54639f3d4c

The event was also attended by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmao, who stressed the importance of an accurate understanding of the population in order to plan and implement effective public policies. “A government that does not know its people is a government that does not know the country it governs,” the Prime Minister said. “With the 2022 Census, we will be better able to achieve our goal of providing progress and well-being for our people,” he added. “We will therefore return the results we obtain to our people in a simple and understandable form so that they can understand each other and contribute to their development.” 27359bb1-b784-49bf-ba7a-bec4699c0e3a

The head of government took the opportunity to address the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the People’s Consultation Day, which will be celebrated on August 20.
