Arsenal released a video on their media channels in which Merino received the letter from Odegaard and read the contents aloud.
“We are very happy to have you as part of our team. You will have a great time here, you will contribute a lot to the team and help us become better,” Ødegaard wrote.
“I am sure we will achieve great things together. We are at your disposal to provide you with everything you need and help you settle in as quickly as possible. We are your family now,” the Norwegian Arsenal captain continued.
Finally, he hopes that the Merino players can enjoy their time as players at the club.
Part of the story is that European Championship winner Merino comes from Real Sociedad, where he previously played alongside Martin Ødegaard. In other words, the two are old acquaintances.
The Norwegian joined Sociedad on loan from Real Madrid for the 2019/20 season.

Merino was part of the Spanish team that won the European Football Championship this summer, scoring the winning goal with two minutes left in extra time in the quarter-final against hosts Germany.
The Spaniard has previously played in the Premier League for Newcastle United. He first joined on loan from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2017 before signing permanently later in the season.
The 28-year-old has been with Real Sociedad since his move from Newcastle in 2018. Merino has made a name for himself in La Liga and was named in the Team of the Year for the 2022/23 season.
