Created in 2022 at the initiative of the Belgian Ministry for Cooperation and Development, the Ava Awards returns this year to honour women who are making a positive impact in their communities through their companies. The event, held on May 30, 2024, brings together a group of entrepreneurial stars to celebrate achievements and promote initiatives with effective impact.
The Awa Prize aims to recognize the outstanding work done by female entrepreneurs and educate the public about the obstacles they face in different contexts.
Why the OA Award?
Entrepreneurship knows no borders and no gender. All over the world, women and men are committed to developing their communities through their own companies. However, the path to women entrepreneurs is often paved with obstacles that make their projects more difficult to achieve. These obstacles include differences related to social norms, time allocated to family care, difficulties in accessing markets and financing, and gender-related physical and psychological violence, which are real obstacles for many women.
In order to achieve a better distribution of opportunities, Enabel established the “Ava Award: Women Entrepreneurs with Impact” at the request of Ms. Myriam Ketter, Minister of Development and Metropolitan Policy Cooperation of Belgium.
More than just a competition for women-led businesses, the Awa Prize aims to unite a community of entrepreneurs committed to overcoming social and economic disparities. Regular events in Tunisia provide a platform for discussion and implementation of practical measures to overcome persistent barriers. One of the most notable moments is the interactive workshops.Women and entrepreneurship: Overcoming challenges, promoting professionalization and encouraging the promotion of entrepreneurial networks“.
Bushra Masrour, OA Award winner
Bouchra Masrour, founder of the Bahia Laboratories Foundation, perfectly embodies the spirit of the OA Award. After working in a private clinic in Kairouan for 18 years, Bouchra decided to fulfill her passion for bio-based beauty products by creating her own company.I have always been passionate about bio-based products I firmly believe that nature is the solution to our health problems. This is why after 18 years of practice in Anesthesia and Resuscitation, I decided to fulfill my dream and create my own brand of natural beauty products“.
In 2016, Bouchra founded Bahia Laboratories, a certified Tunisian company that produces certified ammonia-free, bio-based, natural beauty products in eco-packaging. Her passion for plants led her to blend her academic training, herbal knowledge, and Moroccan traditions. Bushra Masrour confirms:All our products come from organic farming. We own certified “Eco-certification” At Veslatia we mainly produce frankincense, garlands, olives and cactus pears“.
Bahia Laboratories started small, with two employees and a small workshop in an accredited laboratory. Today, the company has five technicians and two marketing specialists, in addition to a showroom in Kairouan and a point of sale in Tunisia. Bushra is also committed to women’s causes, working directly with the women of Weslatia to collect raw materials, ensuring they receive fair wages and improving their living conditions.
Bushra won the 2023 OA Award in the “Innovation” category for her continuous efforts and product quality. She enthusiastically said,I thank the O Prize for giving me this wonderful opportunity to create… Marketing image wins the Gulf market and creates a unique luxury world“.
course 2024 : “OA” Award and Cultural and Creative Industries – OOO
The 2024 Awa Prize will focus on the cultural and creative industries (ICC), highlighting their importance as economic and cultural drivers. These industries enable talented people to transform their skills into profitable activities with cultural impact and play a vital role in their communities.
The cultural and creative industries include many sub-fields such as art and culture. This year’s Awa Prize will focus on 13 fields, including cultural heritage, film, cinema, handicrafts, cultural and creative tourism, performing arts, cultural and creative industry education and training, publishing, fashion, video games, digital culture, as well as creative industries, advertising, design and architecture.
