Farmers hope Inyange will help them get high-quality dairy cows
The Inyange plant recently returned to the factory to process milk powder, as well as other conventional milk powders being built in the Nyagatare district, which will also be relocated to Savannah.
The plant will receive 650,000 litres of milk per day, while the Nyagatare region produces more than 120,000 litres per day during the rainy season and 60,000 litres in the summer.
Gashumba Gahiga, a breeder at Matimba unit, said being a client of Inyange would help them get quality cows so that they can meet the company’s requirements and also have milk for them to drink at home.
“I saw in Kenya that farmers were getting cattle with the help of the industry. We as a company with a reliable market should not only receive the milk but also help farmers get the milk they want,” he said.
Kagaba James, manager of the Inyange milk powder factory in Nyagatare, said Inyange had a lot to offer farmers, including advice on improving productivity and other suggestions from workers working at milk collection points.
They also connect farmers with financial institutions and help them locate cows and other issues related to the security of livestock, water, hay and other infrastructure.
“Inyange provides milk collection support at different times, but there are also financial institutions that have agreements with us to help them reach the farms and get to know the borrowers because they are here to deliver and pay,” he said. “Inyange has done a lot to enable our breeding to progress.”
Some financial institutions that have signed contracts with Inyange said that their livestock loans have low interest rates so that every farmer can easily pay and also be able to obtain high-yielding dairy cows or other equipment to help him raise cattle well.
