Carrying the weight of such a famous surname was one of the decisions young Fitler made to strike out on his own and make his mark in a different way.

Weighing in at 105kg, Fittler is slightly bigger than his father and plays mainly in the back row for the Roosters in league play, but in rugby he can play as a strong midfielder or even outside back.
In one Interview with this head Last year, NSW Rugby’s talent identification manager Andrew Cleverley first revealed the team’s intention to persuade Fittler to pursue a career in rugby.
The NSW rugby junior system has been rejigged to select “dual code” stars after previously overlooking teenagers signing with NRL clubs, hoping the exposure will help entice them to choose rugby over league after leaving school.
“It’s kind of like we’re throwing our arms around him and seeing if they’ll take advantage of the opportunity,” Cleverley said of Fittler.
“See if they feel he has a future in the game and if the game fits the style they like to play. Sometimes that’s the key.
“We think Zach is suited to being a strong athlete playing in midfield. Zach Fittler is definitely suited to rugby league.
“There are a lot of kids out there who are both football and league players, we call them dual athletes. It can be a tough decision for kids who excel in both sports.”
