After a four-month hiatus, the City of Noumea’s monthly garage sale returns on Sunday, August 11. It is an event eagerly awaited by sellers and bargain hunters alike.

On the final day of Olympic competition, some chose to wake up early on Sunday morning, not to sit on the couch and watch high-level athletes compete, but to participate in an endurance event, the monthly garage sale held at Coconut Tree Plaza.

Oryo’s race begins at dawn: “We woke up at 5-6 in the morning, depending on the situation, and then had to take the bus. It took at least 1 hour and 30 minutes to load everything. To be honest, it was quite tiring.”said the little boy.

Lots of clothes, shoes, dishes: quite a lot of junk to show off as much as possible in the fierce competition. Among the 250 registrants, some people began to know how to attract customers: “People don’t like to rummage through boxes, they like everything to be neat and tidy,” assures Helena, who brings in tables and stands to handle the display, so that customers don’t have to “bend over and rummage through boxes on the floor because then people can’t rummage through boxes on the floor. Don’t appreciate that.”

The fan zone was lively with lots of people looking for deals. Unlike the Olympics, this morning it was silver that won gold!
