The President of the Republic, Mr. Nicos Christodoulidis, chaired today a meeting of the Council of Ministers at the Presidential Palace.
After the meeting, the Government Spokesman, Mr. Constantinos Letimioutis, in his speech to journalists, said that “the second extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers has concluded, aimed at coordinating the preparation and formulation of the state budget” for 2025.
As mentioned during the first meeting, the goal is to record the second annual state budget, clearly reflecting the vision while bearing the stamp of President Christodoulides’ governance plan.
There have been extensive discussions among the ministries on the flagship actions presented today, which will be included in this State Budget, which is also a surplus State Budget. Subsequently, the ministries will complete this preparation to be able to prepare the State Budget and submit it in September 2025 as scheduled, and the process will continue.
As in last year, this year the ministries will present their respective action plans. These action plans will be made public to fellow citizens and in early 2025, President Christodoulidis will present the actions to be implemented in 2025 at a special event.”
When asked whether the US decision to eliminate the problems created in Gaza affects the Amaltiya initiative, the spokesman said that this “will not affect the continuation of the Amaltiya initiative in any way”. Moreover, let me remind you that from the first moment of the plan, when the plan was developed for the implementation of the “Amaltiya” maritime corridor, we did not take into account at that time the intention of the US government to build a pier. The construction of the pier was obviously carried out after the first implementation of the initiative. The duration of the pier, the duration of the pier and the duration of the initiative are not the same. The initiative was already planning other ways of providing humanitarian assistance to the civilian population in Gaza.
I would also like to remind you that even before the terminal was built, during a period of some technical problems, humanitarian aid continued to reach the civilian population of Gaza. And this effort continues. It is also very representative that a self-diagnostic mobile device was received from Italy yesterday within the framework of the European Civil Protection Mechanism. This shows the acceleration and efforts to further strengthen the process, and with exactly the same commitment and support from international partners, “Amalthia” continues on track.
I should point out here that in recent years, the amount of humanitarian assistance reaching the civilian population of Gaza has increased rapidly, and we will strive to continue to increase assistance at the same pace, precisely because our initiative makes a catalytic contribution to meeting the urgent need of a civilian population that is recognized”.
Asked if the government had any information about the UN Secretary-General’s intentions after Ms. Holguin’s report was submitted, the spokesperson said, “The latest information we have received from the UN spokesperson is that the Secretary-General, after studying Ms. Holguin’s report and evaluating her recommendations, will invite the leaders to inform them of his own decision on the next steps to be taken to end the deadlock and restart negotiations. We once again reiterate our willingness to follow the arrangements of the UN Secretary-General and sincerely hope to make every effort to break this deadlock as soon as possible.”
