The Ministry of Health has directed all its staff to stop using fake names or aliases on WhatsApp or they will risk being fired from their official departments.

In an internal memo dated August 8, employees were advised to update their personal WhatsApp display names to their full legal names.

“Please note that the use of pseudonyms in the Ministry of Health WhatsApp group is a violation of institutional policy guidelines. In order to ensure the security and integrity of our communication platform, all members must display their full and legal names in the group,” PS Diana Atwiine instructed.

She added: “Please update your WhatsApp display name to reflect your correct identity by the end of Friday, August 8, 2024. (User using a pseudonym). Failure to comply with this will result in you being removed from the Ministry of Health WhatsApp group.”

However, a section of employees criticized the directive, saying it was aimed at suppressing and intimidating them and preventing them from expressing their ideas freely.

We have also learnt that those behind this move are trying to find ways to prevent the leakage of information about group discussions.

They hope to crack down on those who make a habit of taking and sharing screenshots of group discussions.
