A special discussion was held in Colombo yesterday (20th) on the creation of a new party for MPs representing the Sri Lanka People’s Front to support President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the upcoming presidential elections. Nearly 100 SLPP MPs participated in the discussion.
We have decided to field candidates through this new party in any elections held after the next presidential election.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena and Chief Government Whip and Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, was attended by over 100 SLPP MPs who expressed support for President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s victory in the upcoming presidential election.
There are already several candidates for the new party. Since the constitution of the new party to be established has been drawn up, the MPs decided to act in accordance with the constitution.
