New details about the plan to attack Taylor Swift’s Vienna concert

“The main suspect is a 19-year-old Austrian, born in North Macedonia, who confessed during his detention,” Austrian police chief Franz Ruff said at a press conference.

Roof added that he “pledged allegiance to the group’s leaders online and stored chemicals and technical equipment at home in preparation for attacks,” according to Reuters.

“Austrian authorities received information from U.S. intelligence services about a potential threat at a Swift concert,” ABC News reported, citing law enforcement and intelligence sources.

The source added that “at least one of the suspects declared allegiance to the ‘Khorasan Province’ group, the ‘Islamic State’s’ branch in Afghanistan, through the Telegram messaging app.”

Austrian Interior Minister Gerhard Kanna said: “Foreign intelligence services assisted in the investigation because Austrian law does not allow the monitoring of messaging apps.”

The concerts were originally scheduled to be part of Taylor Swift’s tour, “The Eras,” which began on March 17, 2023 in Glendale, Arizona, and was scheduled to end on December 8, 2024 in Vancouver, Canada.

Swift, 34, has not yet commented on the cancellation of the concert on her official Instagram account, which is followed by 283 million people.
