Deputy Prime Minister Cooper encouraged residents to seize new opportunities in the tourism industry as 12 million tourists are expected to come to the Bahamas by 2024!

EXUMA| A kid-friendly version of Sandals, the Caribbean’s most famous all-inclusive resort brand, will be developed in the Bahamas when Sandals Emerald Bay undergoes a $100 million makeover to the Beaches brand.

Sources close to the development told this newspaper that the property is scheduled to be handed over on August 15, which will take six months, as Sandals Resorts International will undertake extensive construction on the property.

According to sources, a significantly larger resort will be built on the current site of Sandals Emerald Bay.

A few years ago, Sandals purchased the property adjacent to the Emerald Bay resort. At the time, there was speculation that Sandals would consider opening a Beaches on the property.

“The hotel will add more rooms, villas, restaurants and family water facilities and activities,” the source said.

The source added that while the plant currently has more than 400 employees, the Beach plant could increase employment opportunities to around 1,000.

Tourism, Investment and Aviation Minister Chester Cooper said at the 2021 Exuma Business Outlook that Sandals is determining a timeline for developing its kid-friendly beach brand on Great Exuma.

Cooper said at the outlook meeting that he hopes Sandals can hold an opening for the beach property by 2026.

This will be the first time Sandals Resorts has developed a beach resort in the Bahamas. The brand is expected to attract families, generate additional spending for the local economy and create jobs during construction.

Resort properties could gain new growth by pivoting to popular family brands.

Meanwhile, Regional Councillor and Minister of Tourism, Mr. Chester Cooper, invites the public to participate in the transformation currently underway. On August 9, Exuma residents are invited to attend a Cookware and Entrepreneurship Expo. The event will feature representatives from Nassau and Exuma hotels.

The job fair provides an opportunity for our residents to gain employment and upgrade their skills in preparation for the many opportunities available at New Exuma Beach. Advice on NIB benefits will also be provided.
