Defense cooperation between the Netherlands and Qatar is being strengthened. Minister Kajsa Ollongren and Qatari Minister of State for International Cooperation Lolwah Al Khater signed an agreement to this end. This took place during the visit of the Emir of Qatar to the Netherlands today.

Qatar is an important strategic regional player. “Important international missions are managed by Qatar. The country therefore plays a key role in promoting stability and reducing tensions in the region. We are strengthening bilateral cooperation, especially through the exchange of knowledge,” said Olungren. The Netherlands particularly appreciates cooperation in the fight against the terrorist organization Islamic State and partnership with NATO.
Knowledge and experience
The agreements signed so far are mainly about exchanging knowledge and experience. They also describe mutual participation in military courses, training and exercises. These agreements are recorded in annual plans. Every two years, intentions are translated into concrete actions.
Control Tasks
Qatar is home to multinational corporations Combined Air Operations Center (CAOC) is located in Al Udeid. Qatar Defense is committed to certifying military equipment according to NATO standards. Among all Gulf countries, Qatar is the most advanced in this regard. The country is expected to obtain full certification by the end of this year. The goal is to achieve interoperability.
