In Rotterdam, the Netherlands, a boat carrying passengers touring the city while eating pancakes crashed into a pier, causing minor injuries to 14 people.

According to police, there were about 100 people on board the “Pannenkoekenboot” (literally “pancake boat”) when the accident occurred. Fourteen of them suffered minor injuries.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident. Police clarified that the captain was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

The Dutch are very proud of their pancakes, which are thicker than French pancakes but thinner than American ones. Often on these types of boats, passengers are able to eat as many delicious pancakes as they want while enjoying the scenery.

Video broadcast by the local Rijnmond channel showed the floating pancakes colliding with the pier. “Everything in the air was shaking, people, tables, chairs, drinks, everything,” said a man who was eating pancakes with his two “very shocked” daughters.

Rotterdam is home to Europe’s largest port, where ship accidents are common.
