MADRID (Euronews). – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted on Tuesday during a meeting with relatives of hostages that he was not sure whether he would reach an agreement with Hamas, according to some of the people involved.
The relatives who met with Netanyahu belonged to the group that insisted on a military way to find their loved ones, rather than those who defended a diplomatic solution.
According to the Times of Israel, Zvika More, who imprisoned her son Eitan, said that after the meeting with Netanyahu, she had a feeling that, as the prime minister himself had suggested, “there would not be a deal.”
The meeting came on the same day that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed the discovery of the bodies of six hostages taken by Hamas during a night operation in Khan Yunis on October 7. The victims may have died between June and July this year.
In the past few hours, Hamas has rejected the latest US proposal, considering it a new modification of the agreement already reached on July 2, aimed at satisfying Israeli pressure.
Some 105 people remain held by Hamas and other armed groups, including another 34 bodies, since October 7 last year. In November 2023, after a brief truce, another 105 hostages were exchanged for dozens of Palestinian prisoners.
