Tegucigalpa –This morning, residents of the Villeda Morales neighborhood and its surroundings occupied a section of the road from Lomas de Toncontín to Villeda Morales to protest the severe damage done to the road.

According to the protesters, around 7 km of the road has completely deteriorated.

Despite promises of compensation, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation (SIT) and the Tegucigalpa mayor’s office have been shifting the blame without offering concrete solutions, causing dissatisfaction and unrest among residents in the area.

The protesters included residents of the villages of Maria Mercedes, Concepcion and Margarita, who joined the protest along with local transport personnel. The streets were lined with taxi units, showing the transport sector’s support for the cause.

National police were also on the scene providing security and engaging in dialogue with protesters, seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The community hopes the protest will prompt authorities to take swift action to repair the road and improve traffic conditions in the area.pound
