The 106th 4-day event has begun. Nearly 6,500 soldiers from 34 countries left the Homensud camp early in the morning. Contrary to fears, weather conditions were good on the first day. The first runners have already returned to the barracks.

Americans, British, Bulgarians, Danes, Germans and other participants from abroad. Today, the Homensud camp is once again home to military detachments and logistics personnel of the Four Days Partisans. About 6,500 soldiers are part of a total of nearly 45,500 walkers.

4 days data

Over the past six weeks, the camp was created from scratch again. The numbers are impressive. Among other things, there are 300 toilets and 320 showers. In order to provide enough food and drink for everyone, 675 kg of raw vegetables and 600 liters of coffee are consumed every day. The runners also throw away 6,000 bananas and about 20,000 slices of bread.

A total of 6,426 soldiers signed up for the race, of which 2,446 were from the Netherlands. They walked 40 kilometres, carrying 10 kilograms of packs. The military presence means that the population of Holmen, which is around 17,000, has now grown by half.
