The National Human Rights Commission has announced that it will organize a regional forum on “The role of national human rights institutions in planning and implementing national vision in human rights-related fields” in the Sultanate of Oman from July 24 to 25, in cooperation with the Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (based in Doha), the Oman Human Rights Commission, the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Arab Commission for a Charter on Human Rights.
200 participants are expected, as well as participation from 50 organizations from the United Nations, international and regional organizations.
Her Excellency Ms. Mariam bint Abdullah Al-Attiyah, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, stated that the Forum aims to strengthen the role of the National Human Rights Institution to enable it to follow up on the implementation of the National Vision in areas related to human rights. In addition to harmonizing laws and legislation, in line with human rights principles in the implementation of the National Vision, and to enhance the capacity of those responsible for the implementation of the National Vision in areas related to human rights. Vision and human rights staff, as well as to establish effective communication channels between the National Human Rights Commission and those responsible for the implementation of the National Vision.
She added: “The Forum also aims to promote compliance with the Paris Principles to support and support the implementation of the national visions, in addition to providing indicators, data, information and statistics related to the national visions to measure the progress achieved in relevant areas of human rights, and to enhance the capacity of national human rights institutions to measure the commitments of countries to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and integrate them into the national visions.”
Attiyah explained that the forum aims to clarify the national vision in human rights-related fields and provide experts, specialists, scholars and decision-makers with an opportunity to identify priorities, review best practices, highlight challenges, showcase best experiences and discuss practices and exchange views to help decision-makers develop visions and appropriate plans in human rights-related fields and strengthen the role of national human rights institutions to enable them to plan and follow up on the implementation of the national vision in human rights-related fields. Human rights.
Noting that the national vision of civil, political, economic, social, cultural, environmental and development rights is the main reference for future planning in countries around the world, she said: “In order to achieve the goals of the national vision, strategy, programmes and mechanisms are developed and implemented according to an integrated working system that brings together all national parties to oversee the review and monitoring of performance in order to achieve the desired goals and results.”
The Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission said that the forum will discuss how to apply a human rights-based perspective in planning and implementing the national vision, taking into account equality and non-discrimination in the national vision and integrating relevant UN concepts. Integrate human rights into the national vision and include the Sustainable Development Goals in the national vision, in addition to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the national vision, as well as indicators to monitor and track progress in the field of human rights in the implementation of the national vision.
