Sri Lanka PPP presidential candidate Namal Rajapaksa today met Tamil National Alliance MP MA Sumanthiran and the two discussed the problems facing the North and East and how the regions will develop if Rajapaksa wins the September 21 presidential election, Geethanath Cassilingham, a member of the Sri Lanka PPP Politburo representing the Northern Province, told the Daily Mirror.

Kasilingham said Rajapaksa told Sumanthiran that he was ready to work with Tamil MPs from the north and east to address the grievances of the people in the region and provide livelihoods and a better future for the youth.

Rajapaksa said that whether he wins the presidential election or not, he wants to ensure a brighter future for citizens in the north and east, and he also intends to develop those regions into international trade centers.

Kasilingham said Rajapaksa had further called for a meeting with all Tamil National Alliance MPs in the Tamil National Alliance office to discuss the grievances in detail.

Kasilingham said Sumanthiran said he would discuss the issues raised by Rajapaksa at the Tamil National Alliance Central Committee meeting tomorrow and appreciated Rajapaksa’s efforts for the people of the north and east.
