Twenty soldiers from the Burmese military junta raided Htet Myat Thu’s home in Mon State in southern Myanmar and subsequently executed Thu and Win Htut Oo.
The bodies of the two journalists were cremated on the spot by the military. The shooting brings the total number of media professionals killed since the coup in February 2021 to seven.
We once again call on the international community to increase pressure on the regime to end its campaign of terror against journalists.
