The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires in Tehran to clarify the attack launched from Pakistani territory on the border villages in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan. ) According to reports, the Pakistani Charge d’Affaires was summoned by the Iranian Foreign Ministry today to clarify the incident. Earlier, Iran announced that an explosion occurred in the city of Saravan in Sistan and Baluchistan province, killing three women and four non-Iranian children.

Pakistan announced that it had carried out a series of highly precise military strikes in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, killing a number of people it described as “terrorists.” It also released some video footage of the attacks it carried out in the border area.

Pakistan’s military said it had successfully struck an alleged separatist hideout in Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province early Thursday using “killer drones, missiles, ammunition and long-range weapons.” Iranian state media reported that at least nine people were killed in the attack, including three women and four children, before the military said in a statement Thursday that “utmost caution has been taken to avoid collateral damage.”

Pakistan said the hideouts targeted in the Marg Bar Samcha operation were being used by the Baloch Liberation Army and the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), two militant groups fighting for greater regional independence. The BLF said in a separate statement on Thursday that it had no hideouts in Iran and that the strike did not kill any of its fighters. The BLF did not comment on the attack on the Iranian region.

Many separatist groups operate in the Balochistan region, where Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan meet. The Baloch people have long shown strong independence tendencies and have long resented rule from both Islamabad and Tehran, and an insurgency has simmered in the porous border region for decades.

In its statement, the Pakistani army reiterated its resolve to “ensure respect for Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and protect it from any untoward adventure,” and said dialogue and cooperation “are considered as wise decisions to resolve bilateral issues between the two neighboring brotherly countries.”
