News website The Information reported that Oracle and xAI, an artificial intelligence (AI) startup backed by American billionaire Musk, failed to reach an agreement on a cloud server services contract worth US$10 billion (HK$78 billion).
The report quoted sources as saying that the two sides put on hold negotiations on jointly building a supercomputer system, but maintained the original contract arrangement, that is, xAI can rent Oracle’s most advanced AI chips from Nvidia. However, xAI will directly order advanced AI chips from Nvidia and build its own data center.
According to reports, Musk believed that the supercomputer computing speed recommended by Oracle did not meet his requirements, which became the main reason for the failure of the cooperation between the two parties.
Spokespeople for Oracle and Musk did not respond to media inquiries.
