MultiChoice Talent Factory (MTF) is delighted to announce that it is once again calling for applications from all aspiring filmmakers, screenwriters, producers and storytellers for its fully-funded MultiChoice courses for the 2025 academic year.
Whether you are a young professional looking to change your career and expand your horizons, or a newcomer eager to make a name for yourself in the television and film industry, MTF welcomes candidates of all backgrounds from 13 countries in Africa: Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Zambia, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Malawi.
Since its inception in 2018, MTF has welcomed 60 students each year, providing them with the opportunity to realize their dreams and unlock their potential, offering a platform to nurture and develop talent across the African continent, and giving them the opportunity to grow, network and succeed in the entertainment industry.
Through a series of rigorous training programs, MTF believes in using a practical approach and guidance from industry experts. Participants not only have the opportunity to improve their skills, but also gain valuable information about the film business. Imagine being selected as one of the participants, learning from some of the best minds in the industry, and gaining hands-on experience in cinematography, sound design, editing, and more. MTF offers all of these opportunities, but it doesn’t stop there.
Upon completion of the program, top-performing students from each academy will receive additional training, mentoring and internship opportunities from MTF’s global partners such as the New York Film Academy (NYFA), Indian platform Zee World, and opportunities to work in productions in the following countries: South Africa: Upon completion of their studies, students will receive certified and accredited training and have the opportunity to produce and direct short films that will be screened on the MultiChoice platform.
All of these initiatives demonstrate MTF’s commitment to supporting MultiChoice’s content selection to deliver interesting, culturally rich local content. Africa has many stories to tell and by investing in African talent, MultiChoice is able to discover and present these stories, supporting students in the MTF Academy and giving them the necessary skills and platform to produce content that resonates with Africans and the world market. Through this support, MTF alumni have achieved great success in their work.
Last year, five alumni were nominated in three categories at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). In addition, many MTF alumni hold key industry positions across the continent, working as directors, producers, sound designers, videographers, art directors, screenwriters and editors on major African productions, including Salem, Temptation, Engaito, Mvamizi, Mom and Wife, Makofi, County 49 and many others. Habtamu S. Mekonen, a student at the MTF East Africa Academy in Nairobi, Kenya, recently won an international Emmy Award for a short film he produced and directed. The success of MTF is best reflected in the feature films produced by its students. These films highlight the talent and creativity of the participants and demonstrate the far-reaching impact of the program.
MTF also promotes entrepreneurship, giving young people the confidence they need to launch their own projects and businesses. To date, thirty former students have registered production companies, created jobs and contributed to the economy. The knowledge and skills imparted by MTF enable graduates to become catalysts for economic growth and cultural enrichment in their communities.
