This is the fourth time the former prime minister has successfully applied for permission to travel abroad since he was charged in March 2023.
(FMT) – The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court has allowed former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin to temporarily issue him a passport to travel to the United Kingdom to attend his granddaughter’s graduation ceremony.
According to Utusan Malaysia, Deputy Public Prosecutor Zander Lim did not object to Muhyiddin’s application.
Muhyiddin and his wife will fly to London on July 19 and return to Malaysia on August 16, said Muhyiddin’s lawyer K Kumaraendran.
This is the fourth time that the PN chairman has successfully applied for permission to travel abroad since he was charged in March last year.
Parti Pribumi Bersatu (UMNO) president Muhyiddin Yassin was charged with abusing his power as prime minister between February 8 and August 20, 2021, by participating in the Jana Wibawa scheme in an attempt to obtain RM232.5 million in funds for his party.
On August 15, Judge Jamil Hussein granted Muhyiddin’s application to drop the charges and used his inherent powers to acquit the former prime minister.
However, on February 28, a three-judge appeals court allowed the prosecution’s appeal and ruled that the High Court had erred in law in finding the charges defective.
Muhyiddin also faces three charges of money laundering involving RM200 million, which are also being heard in the Circuit Court.
