On August 16, 2024, the Department of Public Transportation (DTP) under the Ministry of Transportation, Integrity, Nature and Senior Citizens notified Mr. Ignacio Berkel that he has reached retirement age.
Mr. Burkle’s career as a public servant for Aruba thus culminated.
Mr. Berkel’s career began in Corsou in the Antilles at the age of 6 in 1979. In 1979, Mr. Berkel entered the Antilles government as a writer, then in 1981 he worked as a stripper for the Directie Luchtvaart Nederlandse Antillen and became the Financial Director of the same department.
Mr. Burkel continued to professionalize himself and completed several courses. On September 6, 1988, he returned to Aruba and has served in Directie Luchtvaart. Mr. Burkel was always curious to know more about the airspace and therefore learned to fly as a hobby.
During the 2020 Covid sr season. Burkle was asked to contribute, thereby strengthening the BRA for a season.
Mr. Berkel ends his career with a transfer to DTP as a Senior Inspector in the Inspection Division, where his last day will be August 16, 2024, after 45 years of service in government agencies, including nearly 36 years in Aruba.
DTP colleagues prepared a joyful farewell ceremony and Burkle received a gift from
Colleagues expressed their gratitude for his many years of service. DTP extended its congratulatory message to Mr. Burkle and wished Mr. Burkle a good rest and a well-deserved retirement.
DTP now faces the difficult task of finding someone with the same desire and ability as Mr. Berkel to fill the gap he leaves behind.
