One of the tourists slipped and fell three meters because he did not have adequate climbing equipment.
Rescuers from the Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) sought help for two Polish tourists, a 52-year-old man and his 20-year-old daughter, on the emergency hotline of the Polish Tatra Mountain Service (TOPR) on Friday evening (August 23). Due to the lack of access for tourists, they spent the night at the foot of Mlynárové Mountain in the High Tatras. HZS reported on its website that a man fell while descending on exposed terrain in the area from Mlynárové vidiel to Řažké pleso, and a father and daughter needed help.
The tourist, who did not have adequate climbing gear, apparently slipped and fell about three metres while crossing the slab. He could only answer his daughter as she lost visual contact with him.
“Professional mountain rescuers and volunteers from the High Tatras started the rescue operation. After reaching the rock face, the rescuers had to climb into it and then treat the man who had only minor injuries. Due to the difficulty of transporting the man and his already stable health, the mountain rescuers stayed overnight on site with the tourists,” HZS reported.
Early in the morning, the cooperation of the crew of the Poprad Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (VZZS) was requested. Rescuers gradually evacuated the tourists using the onboard winch and dropped them off in the Belovodsky Valley. “Since the man’s injuries did not require transport to a medical institution, they continued their treatment at their own request,” the HZS added.
